Outdoor Art & Sculpture Exhibition, Boston Harbor Shipyard
HarborArts Outdoor Gallery
East Boston, MA is the site of the first outdoor public art exhibition launched by HarborArts, made possible by Coastal Marine Management and orgaznized in partnership with the Urban Arts Institute at Massachusetts College of Art and Design.
Set within the grounds and on the docks and barges of the historic Boston Harbor Shipyard and Marina, the gallery opened with a collection of thirty contemporary artworks by well known and emerging artists from three continents. The gallery is open to the public, free of charge. Hours are 3pm to Sunset weekdays, and Sunrise to Sunset on weekends.
Christina Lanzl of Urban Arts Institute of Massachusetts College of Art & Design made an invaluable contribution of her time and talent spearheading the Call to Artists resulting in a world- wide response from over 50 artists. Submissions were received from nationally recognized artists as well as student artists and included existing works as well as site- specific proposals. The judging of the submissions was presided over by Randi Hopkins, Associate Curator at Boston's Institute of Contemporary Art.
HarborArts has dedicated this gallery to the member organizations of the Massachusetts Ocean Coalition. The Massachusetts Ocean Coaliton worked to build the comprehensive Massachusetts Ocean Plan ensuring a healthy ocean legacy for the Bay State. All art exhibited is on loan from the artists. New additions to the collection will be made seasonally.
