PROJECTS - Boston Shipyard Artist's Gallery

Carolyn Lewenberg

Boston Harbor Traffic Light

Artist's Statement

Scouting out local resources and investigating existing conditions, I make site-specific art with narratives that weave, figuratively and often literally, place with past, present, and future. In my sculpture, I am currently exploring the potential of invasive oriental bittersweet vines, and materials that may be headed for the dumpster if not incorporated into my art. My work tends to be large scale, with materials that I learn how to work with as I create. My artistic process is an activity that engages my whole creative self, mentally and physically. Intellectually, I speak to the opportunities and challenges we face in a world with rapidly changing available resources.
